The official Shelby County court site identifies the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit and the Circuit Clerk at the Shelby County Courthouse in Columbiana. Its phone directory includes a District, Circuit Criminal and Traffic Court section, which is the useful starting point when the target is a Shelby trial-court file.
A court-file request works best when it identifies the defendant, case number when known, approximate filing period, court level, and the document or disposition needed. The clerk can explain what records the office keeps and how public case information is accessed, but court staff cannot provide legal advice.
A Shelby County trial-court search is not a promise of every criminal event in Alabama or beyond. If the question is broader than Shelby Circuit/District cases, route the request to the state repository or the other court that actually holds the case.
The Alabama AOC describes Alacourt.com as read-only subscription access to trial-court records and “Just One Look” as case-by-case access.
Compare full name, court, case number, charge, filing date and disposition rather than relying on a name alone.
For a consequential use, identify the exact order, judgment, disposition or certified copy required and ask the Shelby clerk how to obtain it.
Save the court name, case number, source URL, access date and the document title. That keeps an online case entry from being described later as a statewide background report.
The Alabama court system makes substantial trial-court information available electronically, but record access can still depend on case type, confidentiality, sealing, and the availability of imaged documents. If an online search does not display the item you need, use the Shelby Circuit Clerk rather than concluding that no court file exists. Court staff can provide public case information but cannot release confidential information or give legal advice.
ALEA’s Alabama Background Check page directs public background-check purposes to the Application to Review Alabama Criminal History Record Information (CHRI), which uses fingerprints, current photo identification, an application and the published fee.
ALEA separately describes its Alabama Background Check System as a secure service for qualifying employers. That is not interchangeable with an ordinary court lookup.
A Shelby court record tells you what appears in a particular trial-court case. A repository criminal-history product answers a different question and may be the required route when a recipient asks specifically for state criminal history or fingerprint-based identity matching.
